Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Do you do School/Library/Bookshop/Virtual visits?
Answer: A most resounding Yes!
I love cozy classroom visits, as well as larger lectures and presentations. If you would like me to visit your students, appear at your book club, read at your library or shop, or speak at your conference, feel free to Contact Me.
Question: Where do you get your story ideas?
Answer: I don’t really know.
Everywhere. Nowhere. Mostly from everyday life. The shower. Wandering the countryside where I live. Odd stories in the news. From wondering, as Neil Gaiman says, “what if.”
Question: What is your illustration style?
Answer: It’s a mixed bag.
And the bag is full of ink and pencil shavings and random things that inspire me: old woodcuts, fairy tales, medieval illumination, cartography, the golden haze that permeates memories of my 90’s childhood, the wizard cloak my mother made me one halloween, and the picture books my sons suddenly become obsessed with and make me read on repeat…
Question: What tools do you use for your illustrations?
Answer: Procreate, an Apple Pencil, and an iPad Pro.
While those are the tools used for my finished illustrations, I almost always start with idea generation in a Moleskine notebook with a G2 .05 black pen.
Question: What’s your favorite book/movie/author/illustrator/etc.?
Answer: Impossible questions, the lot of them.
Too mood dependent. Too many to list here. So I shant.
Question: Do you have any pets?
Answer: Of course.
One teacup terrier, two fuzzy farm cats, twelve docile chickens, and two feral toddlers.
